Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Digvesh Singh Rathi has been fined 50 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on May 19.
Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Abhishek Sharma, too, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the above said match, marking his first offence this season.
The match saw a heated exchange of words between Abhishek and Digvesh after the bowlers' aggressive "notebook" celebration following the left-hander's dismissal.
As this marked Rathi's third Level 1 offence this season and therefore has accumulated two demerit points. Additionally, Rathi, who 12 wickets in IPL 2025, had accumulated three demerit points earlier: One Demerit Point against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025 and Two Demerit Points against Mumbai Indians on April 04, 2025.
As the spinner has five demerit points in total now, after last match's 'celebration', he has been given a one-game suspension. This means that Digvesh will now be suspended for LSG’s next game against Gujarat Titans on May 22, 2025 in Ahmedabad, the IPL said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, speaking after the match in the post-match presentation Abhishek said that he spoke to Rathi after the game, and it is all good now.
Coming to the match, SRH triumphed over LSG by four wickets, successfully chasing down a target of 206 runs. Winning the toss, SRH opted to field first, allowing LSG to post a total of 205/7 in their 20 overs. Markram and Marsh were the standout performers for LSG, scoring half-centuries and laying a solid foundation with a 115-run opening partnership. Despite a late flourish from Pooran, the rest of the batting lineup struggled, with only Pooran reaching double digits.
Eshan Malinga emerged as the leading bowler for SRH, taking 2 wickets for 28 runs, while Harshal Patel, Harsh Dubey, and Nitish Kumar Reddy each chipped in with a wicket.
During the chase, SRH's innings was spearheaded by Abhishek Sharma, who smashed 59 runs off just 20 balls, including four boundaries and six sixes. Ishan Kishan contributed a valuable 35 runs, and a vital partnership of 47 runs was formed between Heinrich Klaasen (47 runs off 28 balls) and Kamindu Mendis (32 runs off 21 balls). SRH ultimately reached the target with 10 balls to spare.
This victory places SRH in eighth position on the points table with four wins, seven losses, and one no result, totaling nine points. LSG, on the other hand, sits in seventh place with five wins and seven losses, accumulating 10 points
