Send Push

Every month when women get their periods, it is not just limited to bleeding, but many hormonal changes also occur in the body. Symptoms like headache, stomach ache, mood swings, and fatigue are common. But there is another problem that many women face – and that is breast pain or pain and stretching in the breasts. Many women are confused about this problem, whether it is a normal part of periods or can be a sign of some serious disease.

In most cases, it is "cyclic breast pain", which is felt a few days before or during periods. The main reason for this is changes in hormones, especially fluctuations in the levels of estrogen and progesterone. These hormones affect the breast tissue, causing swelling and increased sensitivity in them.

# What is the experience of breast pain?

- Heaviness or stretch in the breasts
- Sensation of mild or sharp pricking
- Extreme sensitivity to touch

This pain is usually felt equally in both breasts and gradually subsides as soon as the period ends.

# Ways to get relief from breast pain

Hot or cold compress: A hot water bottle or cold compress provides relief from both swelling and pain.

Avoiding caffeine: Caffeine present in tea, coffee, and cold drinks can increase breast pain, so it can be beneficial to stay away from them during periods.

Wearing a comfortable bra: Tight or heavy bra can put pressure on the breasts, which can increase the pain further. It is better to wear a light, cotton, and comfortable bra.

Yoga and stretching: Doing light exercise, stretching, or yoga relaxes the body and also relieves pain.

# When should you worry?

If breast pain:

- persists

- is felt in only one breast

- a lump or any unusual hardness is experienced

- or there is abnormal discharge from the nipple

Then it may be a sign of some other health problem. In such a situation, a doctor should be contacted immediately.
