How did Rishabh Pant suffer injury?
The Indian vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batter suffered the injury while attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes. Pant missed the full delivery, which struck him flush on the boot near the off stump. England immediately went for a review, hoping for an LBW decision, but UltraEdge detected a spike near the bat, leading to a not-out verdict. However, despite the favourable review, Pant was clearly in discomfort and soon called for the physio.

Pant was visibly struggling to stay on his feet. The physio treated him on the field, but the pain appeared too severe for the left-hander to continue. The wicketkeeper batter was unable to even limp off the field, and a stretcher was being called on the field before being helped onto a medical buggy. India ended the day at 264 for 4 in 83 overs, with a solid platform laid by the top order despite England’s persistent bowling efforts.
Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his fine run with the bat, scoring a fluent 58 that included ten boundaries and a six. He formed a key partnership with Sai Sudharsan, who impressed with a composed 61. However, his innings ended just after reaching his fifty, giving England a breakthrough when he looked set for a bigger score.
Ben Stokes was the standout bowler for England, using the conditions expertly to pick up two crucial wickets. Chris Woakes and Liam Dawson chipped in with one wicket apiece, helping to slow India’s scoring rate. By stumps, Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur were holding the fort for India.
