Shortly after the Indian government announced the India-Pakistan ceasefire on Saturday evening, political leaders flooded the internet with reactions, welcoming the deal and calling it a wise decision for the nation.

Foreign secretary Vikram Misri on Saturday confirmed ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The announcement comes minutes after Donald Trump said a ceasefire has been agreed by both the nations due to US mediation efforts.

"Pakistan's Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) called Indian DGMO at  hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time."

Take a look at how the political leaders in India reacted to the India-Pakistan ceasefire

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday welcomed the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and urged the current state administration to expedite relief measures for affected civilians.

He said that lives could have been saved if the ceasefire had happened two to three days earlier.

"I welcome the ceasefire. If it had happened 2-3 days ago, the lives we lost would not have been lost, Pakistan's DGMO called our DGMO and the ceasefire was implemented. It is the responsibility of the current J&K government to assess wherever the damage has been done and start providing relief to the people," Abdullah said while speaking to the media.

PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti welcomed the Indian-Pakistan understanding and called for political dialogue to resolve cross-border tensions.

Expressing gratitude, Mufti appreciated the understanding between India and Pakistan and added, "Because when there is conflict between our country and Pakistan, it is the people of Jammu and Kashmir who suffer the most."

"This is a border state, and any war is fought on our borders. In such times, many of our people, including children and women--as you've seen in recent days--were killed on both sides. There has been a lot of property damage, and people's lives have become miserable. Our hospitals are full--so are theirs. So, in such a situation, intervention and a halt to the violence is crucial," Mufti said.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin welcomed the understanding between India and Pakistan and said that peace may endure.

"Tamil Nadu marched in solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces. The ceasefire is a welcome step -- may peace endure. Our heartfelt salute to the courage of those who guard our borders," MK Stalin posted on X.

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, speaking to PTI, said: “I congratulate both sides, as war ultimately results in loss of lives and destruction. However, Pakistan must also understand that they cannot allow terrorists from their territory to cross the Line of Control and target innocent civilians.”

"In view of the unprecedented announcements from Washington, DC, there is now a need, more than ever before, for the PM to chair an all-party meeting and take the political parties into confidence. A special session of Parliament should be convened to discuss the events of the last eighteen days, beginning with the brutal Pahalgam terror attacks and the way forward, and to demonstrate a collective resolve," posted Jairam Ramesh on X.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Saturday welcomed the understanding between India and Pakistan to halt all military actions--on land, at sea, and in the air and emphasised the importance of 'peace.'

"Peace is essential. I am very glad, India never wanted a long-term war. India wanted to teach terrorists a lesson, I believe that lesson has been taught. The other details are awaited," Shashi Tharoor told ANI.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Khera posted images of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on X and captioned it, "India misses Indira."
