In an unannounced visit that stirred both inspiration and controversy, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi reached Delhi University on Thursday and urged students to take forward the vision of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He emphasized Ambedkar’s powerful message of “Educate, Agitate and Organize”, especially while interacting with students from marginalized communities.
Focused on the UnderrepresentedMeeting with students from SC, ST, and OBC backgrounds, Rahul Gandhi highlighted deep-rooted issues in the education system — including caste-based discrimination, lack of representation in faculty and administration, and exclusion from corporate opportunities.
“Students must raise their voices not just for themselves but for the voiceless,” he said, stressing that student activism plays a vital role in defending democracy and ensuring inclusion on campuses.
The interaction took place in the office of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) president Raunak Khatri, who later thanked Rahul Gandhi for energizing student voices and amplifying social justice issues.
Rahul’s Shiksha Nyay Campaign Rolls OnThe visit is part of Rahul Gandhi’s broader ‘Shiksha Nyay Samvaad’ campaign, which earlier took him to Ambedkar Hostel in Bihar’s Darbhanga, where he met and spoke with students on similar issues of education inequality and caste injustice.
No Prior Permission, FIR Filed Against Congress WorkersHowever, the Delhi University administration expressed strong objections to the surprise visit. In a statement, the DU Proctor’s Office said Rahul Gandhi entered campus without prior permission and stayed for over an hour.
They also alleged that NSUI members locked some students inside the DUSU secretary’s room and misbehaved with them. DU condemned the incident and confirmed that an FIR has been filed against Congress-affiliated students involved in the disruption.
This marks the second time Rahul Gandhi has visited DU unannounced, raising tensions between university authorities and his political team.
