BBC star Jamie Laing says 'I'm sorry' after snubbing Spencer Matthews

Jamie Laing said "I'm sorry" after Spencer Matthews revealed he was left "hurt" and "confused" when he was left off the guestlist at Jamie's wedding. The duo had forged a tight bond during their stint on Made in Chelsea, with Jamie even serving as officiant at Spencer's televised wedding ceremony.

However, when Jamie wed Sophie Habboo in London in 2023, a month prior to their second Spanish ceremony, Spencer was notably absent from the guest list. Spencer has previously confessed he felt "p****d off" about missing out on the celebrations.

The pair have now had a heart-to-heart about what went wrong as their friendship began to deteriorate, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The rift even resulted in endurance athlete Spencer skipping Jamie's Ultra Marathon challenge, which saw him trek from London to Manchester for Comic Relief.

Speaking on Jamie's Great Company podcast, Spencer confessed that being left off the wedding guest list "hurt" him deeply. He revealed: "I found it pretty confusing. I was pretty hurt by that and I tried to brush that under the table and I'm sure it wasn't malicious from you."

The 37-year-old discovered Jamie's London nuptials after his wife Vogue showed him a newspaper piece about it.

He explained: "I think we had had some conversation and you said it's not really a friends thing, it's like a small family thing, and there were loads of friends there.

"I remember thinking, 'What have I done' or like, 'What have I done to annoy him', and Vogue was like, 'It's pretty weird that you wouldn't be invited to that', and I just thought, 'It is a real shame that I wasn't invited to that'."

Spencer admitted that he initially tried to "brush it off", but soon realised the snub "did matter" to him. Jamie, 36, then revealed the "true reason" for not inviting Spencer was due to his wife Sophie's anxiety.

He elaborated: "The true reason for it was this, during the wedding Soph was very anxious and having a really tough time with anxiety around getting married, and I'd put her doing this podcast all about the wedding and she had said to me before, 'I just want to get married with my feet in the sand. I don't want all of this, you want all of this Jamie'."

Jamie further explained that he was concerned that Spencer, who had declined an invitation to his stag-do, might not "want to come" to the ceremony and feared it would be "weird". This led him to decide against inviting his fellow Made in Chelsea star.

Spencer, who has struggled with alcoholism, expressed that he would have "loved" to attend the ceremony but acknowledged that stag-dos "aren't for me". Jamie suggested that Spencer missing the stag-do could have also spared him the dilemma of whether or not to drink.

Despite everything, Jamie did apologise to Spencer. He confessed: "I think, firstly the biggest mistake I made is not communicating with you, and I was very selfish, just focusing on my own emotions, and I've said this before, I'm sorry that happened and if I could take it back...and even Sophie today says it's really bad."

Spencer reflected that he should have gone to Jamie's stag-do and chosen not to drink. He also mentioned that he contacted the Radio One star following his ultra-marathon challenge.
