Jose Mourinho puts Premier League clubs on red alert after being sacked by Fenerbahce

Jose Mourinho has put the Premier League on red alert after being sacked by Fenerbahce. The Turkish club axed the Special One after Fenerbahce crashed out of the Champions League after losing to Benfica in a play-off.

Mourinho, 62, is believed to be ready for another challenge - and it could be back in England for the ex-Spurs, Manchester United and Chelsea boss. Intriguingly, Mourinho said in October last year that he may be ready for a new challenge in England after years at the top.

Mourinho said cryptically: “When I leave Fenerbahce I go to a club that doesn’t play UEFA competitions. So if any club in England from the bottom of the table needs a coach in two years then I’m ready to go. And I don’t want to say anything more about it.”

Newcastle have long been linked with Mourinho as a glamour appointment but they are in the Champions League.

It might appeal to West Ham who have struggled under Graham Potter or it could be a typical cryptic coded Mourinho message said with sarcasm to remind people he always manages at the top or he was taking a pot shot at a rival.

Either way, Mourinho will always appeal to the Premier League because of his personality and his reputation as a serial winner. Mourinho led Chelsea to Premier League titles and glory and lifted the Champions League with Inter Milan as well as Porto earlier in his career.

The only club he failed to deliver silverware for was Tottenham but Fenerbahce has not gone well as they finished second in the Super Lig last term, 11 points adrift of rivals Galatasaray.

Mourinho’s spell in Turkey was highly controversial as he was handed a four-match ban - later reduced to two games - for his comments about referees.

Then in April, he received a three-match suspension for pinching the nose of Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk during a touchline bust-up.

Meanwhile, Besiktas have also parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - and they pulled the trigger on the ex-Manchester United boss less than an hour after exiting the Europa Conference League.
