Popular singer Guru Randhawa has landed in controversy after commenting on Diljit Dosanjh’s latest film Sardar Ji 3. His indirect criticism of the film — especially amid the existing uproar over the involvement of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir — didn’t sit well with fans. As criticism escalated, Guru Randhawa was forced to deactivate his X (formerly Twitter) account.
What Triggered the Controversy?Without naming Diljit or the film directly, Guru Randhawa posted a message that many believed was aimed at Sardar Ji 3 and Dosanjh’s growing international presence. He wrote:
“Even if you become a complete foreigner, never forget your country. Even if your citizenship isn't Indian anymore, you were born here. Please remember that.”
He followed it with:
Public Reaction: Accusations of Self-Promotion“This country has produced great artists. Be proud of where you were born. Just advice. Don’t create another controversy or manipulate Indians. PR is now bigger than the artist.”
The post went viral, but not for the reasons Guru may have hoped. Many users:
-
Accused him of using Diljit’s name indirectly to gain attention
-
Called out the timing, claiming it looked like an attempt to ride the wave of controversy
-
Criticized him for moral policing and questioning patriotism for personal gain
The backlash was intense, and soon after, Guru Randhawa deactivated his X account to avoid further trolling.
Why Sardar Ji 3 is Controversial-
The controversy around Sardar Ji 3 largely stems from the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.

The film is set to release overseas on June 27, but the makers decided not to release it in India, citing public sentiment and backlash over the cross-border collaboration.
While some public figures have voiced concerns about the film, most refrained from direct criticism. Guru Randhawa’s unusually blunt post made him a rare mainstream voice to openly comment, which is likely why it caused such a stir.
