A domestic quarrel in Ahmednagar district tragically escalated, resulting in the death of an 11-month-old infant when a woman, aiming a trishul (trident) at her brother-in-law, accidentally struck the child instead. The devastating incident occurred in Ambegaon, approximately 70 kilometers from Pune.
The deceased child has been identified as Avdhoot Mengwade. The tragedy unfolded during a heated argument between Pallavi Mengwade and her husband, Sachin Mengwade. Sachin's younger brother, Nitin, and his wife, Bhagyashree, attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation.
Trishul Attack Leads to Fatal InjuryDuring the altercation, Pallavi allegedly picked up a trishul and swung it towards her brother-in-law, Nitin. At that moment, Bhagyashree was holding her 11-month-old son, Avdhoot, in her lap. As Nitin dodged the weapon, the trishul inadvertently struck the infant in Bhagyashree's lap, causing a severe head injury. The child succumbed to the injury and died on the spot.
Nitin and Bhagyashree immediately rushed the child to the hospital, where doctors unfortunately declared him dead.
Police Investigation Underway, Evidence Tampering SuspectedPolice have registered a case against Pallavi and Sachin Mengwade. Nitin was also taken into custody for questioning as part of the investigation. Authorities suspect that there was an attempt to tamper with evidence, as the trishul was reportedly cleaned and bloodstains in the room were wiped away. A forensic team has visited the scene and collected samples for detailed analysis. The police have stated that a thorough investigation into the matter is ongoing.
