Balmoral Castle is closed to visitors today due to Storm Floris. In a statement, the residence said that anyone who had purchased advanced tickets would be refunded, as the public is advised not to travel to the estate.
Storm Floris is expected to bring gale-force winds of up to 90mph and heavy rainfall to much of Northern Ireland, Scotland and the North of England today. Amber and yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office. People in affected areas have been advised not to travel as a 'danger to life' warning is issued due to the strong gusts forecast.
The statement reads: "Balmoral will be closed to the public today, Monday 4th August, due to Storm Floris. Please do not travel to the Estate. We will be issuing refunds for tickets to visit today. Stay safe everyone."
The grounds of Balmoral are usually open to visitors seven days a week, from 10am to 5pm. Visitors can also step inside the Castle's Ballroom to view the 2025 exhibition.
But from August 10, the Castle will be shut to visitors until October, as the Royal Family will be heading on their usual pilgrimage to Scotland for the summer break.
The idyllic bolthole was adored by the late Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, who both enjoyed holidaying in the Scottish Highlands each year.
King Charles meanwhile, usually prefers staying at his own residence on the Balmoral Estate, Birkhall.
