Motoring organisations estimate that around a third of British holidaymakers will choose to rent a car when travelling in . Spanish authorities have invested heavily in a new generation of road cameras that make it easier to catch speeding motorists.
The new models are highly sensitive and can detect vehicles exceeding speed limits by as little as 1 km/h.

"Even slight speeding can trigger fines, which can catch drivers unfamiliar with the roads off guard."
The new cameras have been installed on major highways and popular tourist routes, including on roads leading to hotspots like Malaga, Alicante and Barcelona.
Some areas also feature hidden or portable cameras placed in less obvious locations, which could easily catch out the unwary driver.

The site noted that Spanish police are empowered to collect fines on the spot, which foreign non-residents must pay.
