Former Manchester United loan striker Wout Weghorst lashed out at a cameraperson who got too close for comfort after Ajax surrendered the Dutch title to PSV Eindhoven on Sunday. Ajax needed their rivals to drop points away at 11th-place Sparta Rotterdam after throwing away a nine-point lead at the Eredivisie summit.
But despite doing their job against sixth-place FC Twente, winning 2-0 in Amsterdam, PSV secured back-to-back titles with a 3-1 triumph. During an astonishing late-season collapse, Ajax accumulated just two points in four matches to hand Peter Bosz's side a one-point lead going into the final day. And tensions were high as Weghorst and his team-mates embraced their fans after PSV retained their crown.
Ajax players had lined up on the pitch to acknowledge the supporters behind the goal at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
But as a cameraperson started moving behind the line, Weghorst, stood at the end, quickly turned around and shoved the individual away with an aggressive look on his face.
Weghorst scored Ajax's second of the day in stoppage time but didn't celebrate, given the title celebrations had already begun in Eindhoven.
Sparta's Gijvai Zechiel gave PSV a scare after Ivan Perisic gave the visitors the lead in the first half.
However, Luuk de Jong and Malik Tillman restored their advantage to complete an incredible title turnaround.
Ajax led PSV by nine points with seven matches remaining after completing the double over their rivals in Eindhoven on March 30.
Francesco Farioli's side were unbeaten in 14 league games, in which they collected 40 points, while PSV had won just two of nine.
The reigning champions went on to win their last seven outings, though, including sealing a stunning 3-2 victory in the last minute at Feyenoord after falling two goals behind.
