's Dame Prue Leith has candidly opened up about her husband's concerns over adopting a new dog, fearing the pooch may outlive him. The culinary icon and TV star, known for her role alongside Paul Hollywood on the hit show, has been a staple in British homes with her delectable critiques and warm presence. At 85 years young, Dame Prue, who found love with John Playfair after the passing of her first husband Rayne Kruger, tied the knot with John in 2016.
The couple, who often gush about their love of their two Cavalier King Charles spaniels, are contemplating whether to welcome another dog into their home. John's worries about a new dog potentially outliving him were met with a dismissive "what nonsense" from Dame Prue, as reported by the Times. Moreover, the esteemed baker has spoken openly about her age, sharing her views on the Travel Diaries podcast.
"I haven't got much longer, I'm 85, I want to spend as much time as I can with him," she admitted.
Dame Prue also lauds her husband for his grounded nature, highlighting the strength of their bond, reports .
Dame Prue Leith has spoken fondly of her husband, saying: "One of the wonderful things about him is that he is totally without ego, he doesn't feel threatened by the fact that I have a higher profile than he does, when I introduce him (to people) he always just says, 'I'm the handbag carrier, I'm her chauffeur'."
She embarked on her culinary journey at the age of 20, training at the prestigious Cordon Bleu Cookery School. This marked the beginning of an illustrious career, including the launch of her own restaurant.
Dame Prue joined The Great British Bake Off in 2017, taking over from Dame Mary Berry. Eight years later, she has started to contemplate life after the popular baking show.
In an interview with the Mail On Sunday earlier this year, she revealed that she would participate in the 2025 edition but was uncertain about her involvement in future seasons.
She stated: "I'm doing this year's Bake Off, and I don't know if this will be my last. I've got to stop some time, so I might stop next year. I thought I'd just see how I go this year, because I definitely feel a bit older this year than I did last year."
Dame Prue noted that everyday tasks, such as getting out of a chair, now take her longer than they used to, and she has become more cautious, preferring to avoid big steps without a handrail. She expressed her desire to leave Bake Off on her own terms, before being asked to leave.
In addition to her work on Bake Off, Dame Prue has appeared on other beloved shows, including The Great British Menu and Prue's Cotswold Kitchen.
