A fire has gutted a popular hotel in an area of Wales loved by tourists. Photos of the Worm's Head Hotel in Swansea reveal the devastating aftermath of a nightmare blaze overnight on Monday morning. Police said there were no casualties in the fire, which broke out in the early hours of the morning and caused "significant" structural damage.
Neighbouring bar and restaurant The View Rhossili, also on the Gower Peninsula, described the inferno as "heartbreaking". A spokesperson said: "Heartbreaking scenes from Rhossili this morning following the devastating fire at the Worms Head Hotel last night - a place so deeply rooted in our community. Our thoughts are with the owners and staff of this beloved family business during this incredibly difficult time,"
"Due to the events of last night, we'll be starting food service a little later than usual at 11am today, but we are open as normal for coffee, cake, and toast our usual time," a spokesperson for the site added. "Please be kind to one another today. Let's take care of our neighbours."
The Worm's Head Hotel has long been a popular destination for tourists visiting the beautiful peninsula in southwestern Wales, with the family-run spot offering sweeping views of the Rhossili Bay and Worm's Head island.
South Wales Police said the fire had caused "significant damage" to the building, although its cause remains unknown.
"Officers were called to the Worm's Head Hotel in Swansea at 1:30am on Monday, July 14, following a report of a fire," a spokesperson said.
"The fire service extinguished the fire [and] all guests and staff have been accounted for [with] not injuries. The cause of fire is currently being investigated, but at this time it is not thought to have been deliberate.
Mid and West Wales' Fire Service said six crews were dispatched to the scene of the blaze, which broke out within an "accommodation block" and quickly spread through the building's roof space.
"The fire was extinguished at around 5:30am," they said. "After extinguishing the fire, crews monitored for remaining hot spots using thermal imaging cameras and continued to dampen down at the scene, with the last crews leaving at 9:32am."
