'I'm a BGT finalist and there's huge reason David Walliams shouldn't return to ITV show'

A finalist has revealed a major reason why he believes David Walliams shouldn't return to the talent show. The Little Britain star, 53, left the long-running show in 2022 after 10 years on the show. His decision to quit the ITV show came after a transcript of comments he made about contestants during a break in filming were made public.

In the leaked transcripts, the comic called one elderly contestant a c*** three times and said of another: "She thinks you want to f*** her, but you don't." In a statement issued before he quit, he said: "I would like to apologies to the people I made disrespectful comments about during breaks in filming for Britain's Got Talent in 2020.

"These were private conversations and - like most conversations with friends - were never intended to be shared. Nevertheless, I am sorry."

Since then, the broadcaster has remained active on social media and has even launched a podcast with his Little Britain co-star Matt Lucas called Making A Scene.

In 2023, it was announced that former Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli was taking his place as the fourth judge on the show. Now, 2017 finalist Daliso Chaponda has lifted the lid on why he believes the TV star should stay away from the TV show.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, he told us that he would love to return as judge on the show and shared his thoughts on who should fill the judging seat.

He told us: "I honestly think they should have a rotation. I remember when there was David Hasselhoff, they've had Michael McIntyre and loads of others.

"I think it keep sit alive if they constantly switch around people for the viewers." The comedian went on to revealed what it was like working with the judge on the show.

The Zimbabian-born star recalled: "I spoke to him for a bit and after the show, I did a charity show for him. So, I think he kept me in mind but during the show, you're just so caught up in the moment. Everything he said about me was encouraging."

It comes as the TV star teased the upcoming launch of his new book which is set to share spill some of his best-kept secrets about how to make it as a stand-up comic.
