King Charles and Queen Camilla looked on as a winning horse at Royal Ascot dumped its jockey moments after winning.
Lazzat was being photographed with James Doyle after denying Japan a historic first success in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.
After being chased to the line by Satono Reve, who was backed into favouritism, the Wathnan Racing-owned sprinter was spooked by the winners' cloth.
Queen Camilla appeared to alert King Charles to the drama unfolding and was seen pointing towards the track, where Jerome Reynier-trained Lazzat charged off and ran loose.
The royal couple appeared shocked at what happened, as groundstaff gave chase and eventually caught the runaway horse ten minutes after he finished the race.
It then took the same amount of time for Lazzat to be walked back towards the grandstand where pictures were eventually taken, which led to a delay in proceedings at the Berkshire track.
Doyle grabbed the saddle to weigh in and be greeted by reporters on his own, before he chatted to King Charles who was presenting the prize.
Top rider Doyle was notching his fourth success of the week for the horse's owner, the Emir of Qatar, who purchased Lazzat ahead of the meeting.
Flora Of Bermuda was best of the home team in third but was a long way behind the top two.
Explaining what happened, Doyle said: "Trying to flash the sheet at him and he went around, but yeah, what can you say? I can't take any credit for this at all. Jerome and his team, they know all about him.
"His jockey from before, his young jockey in France, did a great job bringing him through the ranks. He also rode him in Australia when he ran such a good race in the Golden Eagle. We had all bases covered and I have to say that Jerome was very confident.
"He was saying all week: 'Don't worry about the ground, he's fine'. We mapped the pace out and I just thought: 'If I end up winning, I end up winning'. He [Reynier] said: 'Don't worry, he won't stop'. It worked out perfectly.

"I could feel him [Satono Reve] coming, but you won't get a more genuine horse than this. He really pinned his ears back when he joined me and he was always going to fend it off.
"It does help when you get a double on the first day, you can just relax into it. If I had a pound for every time someone said to me: 'That's it, the pressure is off'... but it's completely the opposite.
"Especially with this horse today. I thought he was my banker of the week, which I feel a bit guilty because we only picked the horse up a couple of weeks ago and obviously I landed on him, but I have to say a huge thank you to all of the team."
Richard Brown, spokesperson for Wathnan Racing, said: "It has been an amazing week and that has capped it off. Lazzat locked up with the Japanese horse and they have gone a long way clear in a six-furlong sprint. That was an absolutely phenomenal race to watch, and to be on the lucky side is just amazing. What a horse."
King Charles and Queen Camilla have attended every day of Royal Ascot, however they have been out of luck with their three runners Reaching High, Rainbows Edge and Purple Rainbow finishing out of the places.
