Liverpool already have another defensive option lined up this summer if a move for Marc Guehi doesn't materialise. The spending spree at Anfield this summer is proving a significant one, with the club's transfer record already shattered by the £100million signing of Florian Wirtz, a deal that could potentially rise to £116m.
Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili have also arrived for a combined total of £58m, while Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez is expected to confirm his deal next week. That fee is expected to be around £40m, taking FSG's spend in this window up towards £200m. However, it seems the Premier League champions are far from done.
This week, news emerged that Liverpool are also considering a £70m move for Palace defender Guehi. The 24-year-old only has a year left on his current deal, meaning the Eagles are under pressure to sell to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer.
However, Guehi is said to be prepared to wait 12 months to move if he cannot agree on terms with any interested parties. Arne Slot is keen to boost his defensive ranks regardless, and the Dutch manager has been tracking other centre-back targets as a result.
According to transfer expert Graeme Bailey, Liverpool has been monitoring Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera's performances. The 20-year-old first joined the La Liga club in 2016 and has since made 90 senior appearances.
After playing in the 2024 Olympics for Spain, the age-grade international impressed statistically last season. According to La Liga records, he made 56 tackles and a combined total of 72 blocks and interceptions, while enjoying a 90.5 per cent pass completion rate.
Significantly, like Guehi, Mosquera is out of contract next summer. As a result, Liverpool are likely to be able to negotiate a sensible fee while signing a player with long-term potential.
A move for Mosquera is also likely to accelerate the departure of Jarrell Quansah. The 22-year-old is being linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen after struggling to hold down a regular starting place under Slot last season.
