
's invitation to US President for a second state visit to the UK left Canadians "unimpressed" according to the country's prime minister, Mark Carney. Mr Trump and it was handed to him by Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House.
It made Mr Trump the first elected politician in modern history to be hosted by the Royal Family for two state visits. But the was not received fondly by neighbouring Canadians, as at the time, Mr Trump addressed his desire to annexe Canada. Mr Carney told : "I think, to be frank, they [Canadians] weren't impressed by that gesture... given the circumstance.
"It was at a time when we were being quite clear, some of us were being quite clear, about the issues around sovereignty."
Canada recognises Charles as its King as the monarch is head of state of all the Commonwealth countries.
Back in March, Mr Trump said in a post shared on Truth Social - an alt-tech social media platform owned by Trump Media: "The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our cherished Fifty First State. This would make all tariffs, and everything else, totally disappear.
A month later, in April, Mr Trump confirmed he will visit the UK in September to to meet his "friend" King Charles.
Speaking in the Oval Office, he said: "I think we're setting a date for September", adding that it was a "great honour" to receive the invitation.
He added that it was an "honour" to be "a friend" of the King and "the family, William".
The US President said: "I was invited by the King and the great country. They are going to do a second fest - that's what it is. It is beautiful. It is the second time it has happened to one person.
"The reason is we have two separate terms, and it's an honour to be a friend of King Charles and the family, William.
"I think they are setting a date for September. I don't know how it can be bigger than the last one. The last one was incredible but they say the next one will be even more important."
