
A car burst into flames on the M11 causing traffic chaos on the motorway. A statement from National Highways said the incident caused a fill spillage between Junction 10 (Royston) and Junction 8 (Stansted). The road agency said drivers face delays of up to 60 minutes on approach to the scene.
National Highways said: "The M11 in Essex currently has severe delays southbound due to an earlier vehicle fire which caused a fuel spillage between J10 (Royston) and J8 (Stansted).
"The vehicle fire caused the vehicle to rupture its fuel tank causing a severe spillage across the carriageway. Complex recovery and clear-up works remain ongoing. There are severe delays of up to 60 minutes on approach.
"Please be mindful if travelling to Stansted Airport this afternoon to allow extra journey time and plan your journey."
