The huge African city that's got more people than London and 1 of world's fastest growing

The worlds population is constantly growing, and Nigeria & London are toe-to-toe with residents exceeding 9million in Nigeria whilst statistics show London is home to 8.9million in 2025. Lagos, the most popular city in Nigeria is on track to becoming the largest city in the world by the end of the century, with a projected population of around 100million people.

According to , the city could surpass Tokyo, Delhi, and Shanghai to become the most densely populated urban area on the planet.

The city is one of the world's fastest growing economic-hubs, attracting people in search of jobs and business opportunities. It also acts as Nigeria's financial centre and is a major player in industries like banking, technology, and entertainment.

Many people are familiar with Hollywood and Bollywood, but Nollywood is Africa's largest film industry based in Lagos city, continuosly growing along with many tech startups, making it a central hub for expanding business here.

Despite Lagos being a growing economy, the rise in population has presented challenges within the metropolitan city, particularly issues surrounding traffic congestion, lack of housing and environmental pollution. Devlopers are hopeful to turn the city into a 'second Dubai' attracting tourists and building 'sleek properties' similar to those found in the UAE.

Akintola Oladejo, CEO of Prestigious Homes Ltd, has developments and projects in a number of the more commercially viable parts of Lagos, Nigeria.

These include Banana Island, Victoria Island as well as in the neighbouring city of Lekki, How We Made it in Africa reports.

The outlet compares three locations to Dubai's Palm Jumeirah, Business Bay, and Dubai Marina, and Oladejo says renowned Dubai developers have had a big impact on his vision for property in the city.

Oladejo says he is looking to build a luxurious domestic alternative to Dubai while setting his sights on establishing high-yield investments catering to Nigerians wanting to invest back in the country.

''Megacity'' status for Lagos was earned under UN guidelines in 1995, when the total city population boomed to more than 10million.

Today, the city is thought to be sixth most populated megacity on the planet. An estimated 20 million residents live within the roughly 1,200 square miles of the city, with an annual growth rate of 6%.
