UK drivers have been urged by an expert to have seven key items in their car boots ahead of November. The advice comes asmaps by WXCharts forecasts snowfall to hit various parts of the UK towards the end of the month
Harsh weather conditions are likely to continue throughout November, and Mike Thompson, chief operating officer at Leasing Options, says that drivers should prepare their vehicles to ensure smoother and safer journeys and avoid a fine.
Mike Thompson said: "Driving in snow can be challenging for many motorists. While some choose to avoid venturing out in harsh conditions, others may have no choice but to face the snowy and icy roads.
"Fortunately, there are several ways to adapt to the changing weather - from preparing your vehicle for emergencies to adopting safer driving techniques."
The expert added that "it's essential to keep an emergency kit in your car" as doing so will ensure preparation in "unexpected situations".
According to Mr Thomspon, every driver's emergency toolkit should include: an ice scraper, a shovel, a toolkit, a blanket, warm clothes, a flashlight and a first aid kit.
Keeping those items on hand is crucial to keeping safe and comfortable in the event of an accident or breakdown.
Mr Thompson also revealed how drivers should prepare their vehicles for harsh winter conditions. He says that fitting your vehicle with winter tyres is "one of the most effective safety measures".
Winter tyres are designed to provide vehicles with enhanced grip in extreme weather, reducing the risk of skidding and improving overall control. Motorists should also top up their vehicles with antifreeze and use a winter-specific screen wash.
The Leasings Options boss warned drivers that driving with frosted or misted windows could lead to a £60 fine, three penalty points on licences, and a number of safety hazards so "always clear the snow and ice from your vehicles to maintain full visibility whilst driving".
