NEW DELHI: The Indian Army recovered a Turkish-made kamikaze drone in a village in the Naushera area of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. This comes as Pakistan continues to target civilian buildings and areas across India’s western border.
According to defence officials, Pakistan had tried to send several drones into India, likely to test how well India can defend its airspace. These drones are believed to be of Turkish origin.
In a separate incident, defence officials reported that Pakistani drones, specifically Byker YIHA III kamikaze drones, were also launched into Punjab’s Amritsar early Saturday morning.
These drones were aimed at civilian areas, but the Indian Army shot them down using air defence guns at around 5 am, preventing any damage.
Later that morning, parts of another unknown flying object were found in a field in Mughlani Kot Village , Amritsar. Similar debris was also discovered in Rajasthan’s Barmer. Locals found the remains in burnt patches of farmland, suggesting more attempted drone attacks.
These attacks come just days after India launched its anti-terror action under, ' Operation Sindoor ' on May 7, where Indian forces carried out precision strikes on nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The operation killed top terrorists from groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), including Maulana Yusuf Azhar , who was involved in the 1999 IC-814 plane hijacking.
Sources said that the Indian operation also targeted key figures involved in spreading radical ideas, training terrorists, and planning attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports suggest that Pakistani army, police, and government officials attended the funerals of some of those killed, raising questions about Pakistan’s claims that it does not support terrorists.
