Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon found himself on the receiving end of sharp wit and facts from X users after criticising India for buying Russian oil.
Nebraska Congressman Don Bacon, in a post on X, said that India, which buys Russian energy, should pay out the nose.
"I am a friend of India, but it should not support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Any country who buys Russian energy should pay out the nose. Russia the invader is invading Ukraine the democracy. The largest democracy in the world should stand with Ukraine," Bacon said in a post.
The X's community reader feature allows users to collaboratively add context to potentially misleading posts. Contributors can leave notes on any post and if enough contributors from different points of view rate that note as helpful, the note will be publicly shown on a post.
In the post, the community note reads, "The US still buys uranium from Russia and Europe relies on Russian energy. Even Nato member Turkey imports Russian oil. Singling out India is unfair and hypocritical."
Bacon’s post didn’t just get fact-checked — it also drew the ire of several users. One of the user said, "Tell NATO to stop poking nose! RUSSIA will be fine." Another said, "Don, you have 4 kids and 8 grandkids. Why don’t you send them to fight in Ukraine since you love them so much? Put your money where your mouth is Don and stop being a hypocrite."
